Preserved Appliances 1920-1959



This 1926 Albion - Merryweather served with Wexford Corporation and is now preserved in the town.


1936 Ford V8 with a Simmons and Brenner 3 stage pump of german origin and body work by O'Neills Tullow St. Carlow IC 2000.
Preserved with Carlow County Fire & Rescue.


IY 3559 1937 Albion- Merryweather new to Drogheda Corporation has a Hatfield 275 gpm pump , 30 gallon first aid tank and carries a Merryweather 'Telescala ' 50' Fire Escape


1951 Dennis F2 Pump Escape - ZF 3696 - preserved in Cork City


South Tipperary's 1949 Ford V8/Kerr, HI 5796, currently being fully restored, photographed in June 2000 outside Cobh FS. This served for 25yrs in Tipperary. The appliance on the right is a 1960 Austin FG/Doody & Murphy, AZB 20, which served at this station and is now restored

1940 Dennis Light4 (Chassis No. 3061A) Sligo - EI 4150


This Dennis was new to Hornchurch Essex GLW 668
Sold to Co. Clare Fire Brigade and ran out of Kilrush . It is now on display at the National Transport Museum in Howth.


1950 Commer QX/ Whitson new to Brighton FNJ 961 and later sold to Co. Clare Irish reg 2408 IE. Photo was taken at Kilbeggan Fire Engine Rally 1991.The appliance today is awaiting full restoration.


Dennis F2 Preserved by Limerick City Fire Service


1937 Ford/ Fordson Stationed at Athlone Army Barracks after the war until 1973.The Sulzer pump on the rear is dated 1942 .The appliance is now preserved in Castlerea .


The writing on the side of the appliance says it all . Now preserved in Co. Wicklow


Dennis F8 ex N.I. preserved in Co. Monaghan


Ex. Home Office Bedford 4X4 Greengodess preserved in Navan.


This Cornwall Austin Loadstar was spotted in a yard in Dublin.


This 1939 Bedford M is on display at The Transport Museum Howth.


1935 Dennis Ace JB 7280 ex Wallingford Rural Distric Council Berkshire is also on display at National Transport Museum in Howth


1941 Albion Kerr is another ex UK appliance under going restoration here in Ireland.


1935 Dennis Ace ex N.I. is preserved in Co. Monaghan


Bedford 4x2 with bodywork by Harringtons of Hove.Served with Kilkenny Fire Service at Thomastown. Preserved in Athy

1955 Bedford 4x2 one of six purchased by Laois Co. Co. from the H.O. MCI 612 saw service with Stradbally Fire Brigade. Preserved im Stradbally.

From the other side


Two views of Dundalk's 1932 Merryweather / Hatfield which was one of the appliances which attended Belfast in 1941 following two bombing's of the city by the Germans. It is preserved, in running order, in Dundalk fire station.
